Fall 2003 Meeting Highlights
October 2 and 3, 2003
Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland

Strategic Planning CCIR dedicated a significant portion of the agenda to the discussion of a new Strategic Plan for 2004-2006. Members decided on initiatives that would address identified challenges facing consumers, industry and regulators.

There was a commitment to work with stakeholders to address each of the following three strategic priorities over the next three years:

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of harmonized regulation while recognizing local autonomy.
  • Work towards achieving a reduction in unnecessary regulatory burden.
  • Actively collaborate with financial services regulators and other stakeholders to keep pace with changes in the financial marketplace.

The CCIR Strategic Plan for 2004-6 will be finalized and available on the CCIR website before the end of the year. Work on new initiatives will begin shortly afterwards.

LLQP

The CCIR-CISRO LLQP Integrity Committee reported on the status of revisions to the Examination. These revisions are being made to respond to the recommendations in the Brondesbury Group’s review of the LLQP Examination in May 2003. As recommended in the review, the LLQP Exam pass rate will be 60% in all jurisdictions as of November 1, 2003. General information pertaining to the LLQP is available on the CCIR website (www.ccir-ccrra.org). Other questions pertaining to licensing requirements should continue to be addressed to the licensing authority in individual jurisdictions.
